Why Do We Run This Race?

Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Verse of Concentration 1 Corinthians 9:25 (NLT)

“All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.”

Like runners on a track team, we also train for and run a race. Some of our training includes prayer and worship, which allows us to run with energy and to have staying power. We have to be disciplined and run with purpose in order to receive the prize we so desire.

We run to win! What, you may ask, is the prize? If you are a Christian, then you already know the answer to that question. But if you don’t know, let me let you in on a little secret. Running this Christian race is all about the prize of “eternal life.” That is the ultimate prize for us as Christians. Being joint heirs with Christ, entitles us to this Heavenly reward. This prize should motivate us to continue on in the race. Even though we may suffer setbacks, or the fact that certain situations may send us into a tailspin, which may take us a while to recover from, don’t loose focus! I encourage you to keep training and to keep running, for it will be worth it all in the end. For the scripture says “the race is not given to swift nor to the strong, but to the one that endures”. So pull out your running shoes, dust them off, get on your mark…. get set…and GO!

Focus: Be faithful to what you are called to do and you will receive your just reward which is eternal life with our Heavenly Father.
